More About Us

Not Many people in Zimbabwe have heard of the Poor Clare Sisters

Mostly because we are an Enclosed Order leading a life of prayer and silence. We are a haven of peace and serenity amid the hectic, tumultuous world! The Poor Clare Order was founded by St. Clare in 1212. St Clare was a close follower of St. Francis of Assisi who founded the Franciscan Order. The Poor Clare Sisters, therefore, follow Franciscan Spirituality. Since their formation, many Monasteries have begun around the world and here in Zimbabwe. The first Poor Clare Sisters arrived from Spain in 1985 and started a Monastery in the vicinity of St Francis Church in Waterfalls.

POOR CLARE SISTERS

How We Live

The contemplative vocation is a free gift from God. God invites, He does not compel. The Poor Clare Sister is aware of her call to serve – to serve the Lord directly and to serve God’s people indirectly.

Prayer

We devote as much time to the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The Poor Clares follow a life of contemplation, with their day centred on the Eucharist and Eucharistic Adoration, either daily or perpetual. This means that we devote as much time as possible to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
